We present an annual weekend workshop in the
ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE
at Hawkwood College.
Our programme always begins with supper on the Friday evening and ends at
teatime on the Sunday afternoon.
The Alexander Technique gives you a completely new sense of yourself in activity
and repose. The Technique re-educates the 6th sense of kinaesthetic awareness
which indirectly improves, balance, poise, coordination, breathing and overall
general functoning. It has been used by people from all backgrounds and of
all age groups to combat tension, improve postural habits and prevent unwanted
reactions and responses to everday stimuli that tend to "pull us down".
It has been used by many top musicians, famous filmstars and other celebrities
to overcome anxiety, improve poise, bring about inner calm and equanimity,
and, not least, to improve performance of skills or in tackling new tasks.
The content of the programme includes group sessions, private individual sessions, topic presentations and discussions. There is an early morning optional session of a little T'ai Chi followed by a silent period. Usually we start after breakfast with a group session followed by individual one-to-one sessions and another group session before lunch. The afternoon tends to repeat the pattern of the morning and we have a special presentation in the evening on Saturday.
Sunday is another full day of group and individual sessions so by the end of the weekend beginners can get a thorough grounding in the Technique whilst the more experienced can refresh, renew and expand their awareness of this unique approach to health and well-being.
We always bring with us one or several of our senior students to assist us on this course which forms part of their 3 year training programme with us at the Hampstead Alexander Centre to become qualified teachers of the Alexander Technique.
Hawkwood College is a delightful old building set up on a Cotswold hillside
just outside Stroud with spectacular views towards the Severn valley. We
have used this venue for very many years and the friendliness of the staff,
well appointed accomodation and excellent food make any workshop a special
event.
